The main fighting equipment of an auxiliary infantryman, from an infantry or mixed cohort, of the 1st century.
1. Helmet of bronze or iron with broad neck guard.
2. Mail shirt with a tunic worn under it.
3. Long slashing sword.
4. Shield. There is some evidence for shield patterns to be consistent within units.
5. Caligae the military hob nailed boots. These would have been worn with socks and, no doubt, trousers in northern Britain.
6. Baldric of metal plates on leather.
7. Spear.
